Laundry Rooms The Basics
Site
The best laundry's are sited in a open room with a external wall and solid concrete floor, many nursing homes and restaurants choose to site there equipment in a cellar, this can cause problems with drainage and also restricts the size of equipment that can be purchased due to poor access to the majority of cellars.
Electricity
Most modern washing machines can run off a standard single phase supply. However if purchasing larger equipment or some reconditioned machines you will have a much wider choice of equipment with a 3phase supply, 3phase also allows your washers to heat quicker and more efficiently meaning a reduced wash time and a higher throughput.
If purchasing electric heat tumble dryers above 15kg capacity you will most likely require a 3phase supply, but please contact a member of our team as specifications do vary
(gas dryers can run off a 13amp plug)
Water
As you have probably guessed commercial equipment uses a lot more water than domestic machinery, as all washers are different you will need to look at the specifications (you may require storage tanks) just call our team and they will be happy to help.
Gas
Gas dryers usually use between 100,000 – 180,000 btu dependent on size and brand again look at the specifications or call our team they will be happy to help
Ventilation
This is a important often overlooked factor when setting up a new laundry, outside walls are preferred to vent directly out of the building and to allow fresh air in.
This is all crucial
I once had a nursing home call me to say they had just built a new room and needed some equipment, we had worked with the gentleman in question for years and supplied a number of his homes so, I jumped in the car to have a look what we could do. When I got to site they had built the laundry room in the middle of the site with no real access, we supplied the equipment but 3 walls had to come down and he spent over £5,000 on specialist ducting, this could have all been avoided if they had just called me.
This is not ment to scare anyone it really isn't that hard just pick up the phone and speak to one of our surveyors all it will cost is a phone call and it could save you money. 0121 486 3566
